It has officially been announced by General Motors that the factory in Hamtramck, Michigan, where it is assembled as the Chevrolet Volt, will stop production for four weeks as the plant will be subject to a number of works to be completed in June 2011, to empower them to expand production model. Consequently, the supply deliveries to dealers and customers will suffer by delays, however priority will be to prepare for the Volt and Ampere’s exports to Europe and China. The Chevrolet Volt, which is presently marketed only in certain areas of the U.S., will be distributed throughout the country by the end of this year. The Volt thus broadens its horizons outside of Washington DC, California, New York, New Jersey, Texas and Connecticut. The first state in which the new phase of sales will be is Michigan, where the Volt will hopefully debut in March. According to General Motors, the electric powered 2011 Chevrolet Volt will be able to cover as much as the first 40 miles (60 km) of a journey on just its battery power, and thus use no gasoline (petrol) on short return trips. GM says that Chevrolet Volt owners will be able to plug in and charge their car's battery pack off a standard household electrical outlet.
