Is it really that much of a blow Argentina not qualifying for the 2010 World Cup? It would stop South Africa getting a bit Messi.

    It's good for their competitors but not good for football.

    Surely people want to see the best players at the tournament, and Argentina have several of the best footballers in the world.

    Who would you rather watch on TV next summmer: Lionel Messi or Mark Gonzalez?

    But, just because a nation has good players does not mean they have a divine right to be in the major tournaments.
