    Hi There,
    There are a few ways.
If your bike does not shift gears, you can loosen the back wheel with the right tools and slide the wheel backward and retighten it. That will remove slack from the chain.

If your bike does shift gears and the chain drops when you are shifting you may need to adjust the limit screws on the deraillers. It helps to know which derailler is sending the chain too far and in which direction.

It's actually a simple task. On each derailler there are two screws. One stops it from moving too far inward and the other limits outward movement. Sometimes they'll be labled with an "H" for high limit (outward) and "L" for low limit (inward). If you already know which direction the chain is falling, just tighten that s***w a little and try shifting. Adjust the s***w untill the chain shifts acturately.

There could be other problems. If the teeth on the chainrings are worn or broken you may need to replace parts. If you have several thousand miles on the bike your chain may be stretched. A bike store can measure it and recommend a replacement if needed.
