Canna rhizomes may rot if the soil is too wet, especially if this is combined with cool temperatures. Cannas can easilly tolerate very wet soils when they are well rooted and in active growth.
Before planting canna rhizomes, it is important to inspect them for signs of damage or rotting. Only buy rhizomes that seem healthy.

In this case, the best solution would be to water less. Let the soil dry slightly before watering.
