A skyscraper is a tall, continuously habitable building. There is no official definition or height above which a building may clearly be classified as a skyscraper. Most cities define the term empirically; even a building of 80 m (262 ft) may be considered a skyscraper if it protrudes above its built environment and changes the overall skyline.

This list of cities with most skyscrapers ranks cities around the world by their number of buildings higher than various thresholds, complementing the list of cities with the most high-rise buildings, which uses a 35m cutoff.

Cities with at least 100 completed / topped-out skyscrapers above 150m

Some skyscraper definitions draw the lower limit at 150m. The following list includes all cities with at least 100 completed or topped-out skyscrapers according to this definition:

    City

    Hong Kong

    Dubai

    Shanghai

    Chicago

    New York City

Cities with at least 100 skyscrapers above 150m (under construction inclusive)

The tables above will change until 2014 due to the numerous skyscrapers currently under construction, reflected in the list below.

    City

    Dubai

    Shanghai

    New York City

    Hong Kong

    Chicago

Cities with at least 200 buildings ≥ 100m

Lowering the threshold from 150m to 100m - not enough for a skyscraper by the above definition - and including all urban agglomerations with at least 200 buildings higher than 100m, yields the following table:

    City (Country,   Buildings, Combined Heights)

Hong Kong (Hong Kong,  2354,  333836)

New York City (United States,  794,  109720)

    Tokyo (Japan, 556, 73008)

    Shanghai (China,   430, 59958)

Dubai (United Arab Emirates, 403, 66248)

    Bangkok (Thailand,  355, 48737)

    Chicago (United States,  341, 48441)

    Guangzhou (China,   295, 42865)

    Seoul (South Korea,  282, 39308)

    Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia,  244, 34035)

    Singapore (Singapore,  238, 33735)

    Shenzhen (China,   235, 33435)

    Chongqing (China,   226, 31475)

    Toronto (Canada,   216, 27867)
