H-1B to J-2 Visa

I am currently on H-1B. My wife is on J-1. I have cleared second stage of GC (EB3). Is it safe to apply for change of status from H-1B to J-2? Please advice.

    OK why if you are doing the Green Card process and on H-1B visa do you want switch to the J-2 visa? As you are going through the permanent residency process you can stay on beyond your H-1B visa dates.
