Interesting Facts about Highest Waterfall in the World

    * The Salto Angel falls are the highest waterfall in the world. Their height is approximately 3212 feet (979 meters) and the single longest drop is 2648 feet ie 807 meters. For those of you who want to know, where is the highest waterfall in the world? Here is the answer - this waterfall originates from the "Auyan-Tepui" plateau, located in La Gran Sabana, a highland area. Angel Falls are actually located on one of the tributaries of the river Rio Caroni. These waterfalls are formed when the tributary falls from Auyantepui. Auyan-Tepui in local language means "devil's mountain".

    * The width of the Angel falls at the base is around five hundred feet. At the base of the Angel falls lies the "Río Gauya" river which further flows towards the Churun river. Churun river is the tributary of the river Carrao.

    * The unbelievable height of the one of the most famous waterfalls of the world can be understood from the fact that Angel falls are three times the size of world's highest tower ie Eiffel Tower and twenty times higher than the Niagara falls.

    * Owing to its height, much of the water of the falls evaporates midway or gets carried away by the strong winds in the region. It is believed that people who are within a one mile radius of the falls can get sprayed by the mist coming from the falls.

    * Angel falls are known by two other names as well - Tulume Bena and Big River Falls. From a distance it may seem that Angel falls are just one great fall but as one gets closer, there are a number of caves, canyons and tunnels in which the Angel falls enter and come out. The falls have an upper section, from there it plunges around hundred feet, then enters a cave. Once it emerges from the cave it takes another hundred fifty foot plunge. Only after this the falls make their long drops. During the rainy season, the Angel Falls are split into a number of waterfalls.

    * Today the Angel falls come under the Canaima national park, which covers an area of three million hectares. This national park is located in the south western region of Venezuela. Angel falls are surrounded on all sides by tropical forests, grasslands and mesas. There are countless lagoons, rivers, waterfalls and savanna all around it.

The beautiful scenery around these falls, their breathtaking height, the silvery blue water and the surrounding greenery, make angel falls one of the places that every avid traveler should visit at least once. Angel falls are one of the topmost tourist attractions in Venezuela, however, taking a trip to this isolated place is not easy. A person who wants to visit these waterfalls can take an aerial trip of the falls but if the weather is cloudy, the falls might not be visible. Another alternative is to first take a flight from Caracas to reach the Canaima camp. From this camp, river trips towards the base of the falls are undertaken. The best months to visit this highest waterfall in the world are from June to December.
