The Civic Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure is a Honda exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal collisions. The ACE design utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle. The anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup. This helps the driver retain steering control when braking hard. The Civic enhances its visibility to others by incorporating Daytime Running Lights (DRL) up front. The Civic is equipped with dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags (SRS). One or both of these airbags will be deployed only in the event of a sufficient frontal impact. If deployed, these airbags are capable of being inflated at different rates depending on crash severity, seat-belt usage and/or other factors. All front and rear seating positions have 3-point seat belts that ride across the lap and chest to help restrain occupants during sudden stops or impact. To help reduce the likelihood of head and neck injuries for outboard occupants in side collisions, all Civic models feature standard side curtain airbags. The side curtain airbag module is positioned along the side of the headliner. In the event of a sufficient side impact, this system will activate to help provide protection for both front and rear outboard passengers.
