How can I make sure if a URL is being removed completely by Google?

I have requested to get a URL removed from Google searches and I need to know how I can be sure of that

    In order to do so, you should make sure that you select the correct type of removal as follows:
    • If a specific page has been removed from a site, make sure it returns a true 404 (Page Not Found) code, and then use the URL removal tool to request removal of the URL from Google's search results.
    • If the page in question still exists but has been updated, request removal of Google's cached copy of that page.
