How did my cell phone dial 911 itself?

Today at around 5 pm, I was standing in my bathroom, washing my face, when my cell phone rang in my pocket. The call was from emergency services, saying that I had called them just a moment ago. I told them that I must have pocket dialed and apologized. I looked at my phone afterwards - at the call log - and saw that I hadn't dialed any emergency number, or any number since a month before. I hadn't talked to anyone on my cell phone in a while, the call from emergency services was the first one in about a month, and showed up in "Recieved calls" but the phone never shows me calling 911 under "Dialed numbers." Even if I did pocket dial, the call would've shown there. They sent an officer to check everything out, and I showed him the call log, so I didn't get penalized for calling them. He pretty much just said "That's odd," checked the house, and left.
Has anything like this happened to anyone else? I've heard of home phones doing it, especially when their batteries are low, but this is a cell phone with the battery showing as half-charged.
The phone is a Nokia 1600 (Pay as you go) and is probably about 3-4 years old. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it possible that someone is messing with me somehow?

Did it show you dialed 80?  It happened to me at work one night.  I freopped my Nokia in my pocket without locvking the keys, next thing I know a 911 op is calling my phone asking what my emergency is.  When I checked the call log, 80 was all that had been dialed.

This just happened last night to my mother-in-law. 3 a.m. she heard loud pounding on her front door. She awoke from her sleep to go answer the door. There were two squad cars and police officers asking what the emergency was. She said what are you talking about? I was sleeping. They told her her phone number showed up that someone called 911 from her house. She said she lived alone and she was sleeping. No one called 911 from her house. They came into her house and checked around. Then they went to the cordless phone unit and told her to disconnect it from the wall. They left in amazement of the hole ordeal. My mother-in-law was amazed herself. There was no explaination given. She is now using her landline. Who or what caused this to happen?

Well it not a matter of big deal these days when it is a fast growing age of telecom sector things like these are of normal happening because machine is always a machine.

There can be any problem with it. The problem occurred with you specifically is the problem with the connection not with the cell phone it self.

At times the burden on the cellular companies is so much high that there is a misleading of calls at different numbers.

So i think there is nothing to worry about as you had already told the authorities about all the facts so just relax and enjoy.
