Please follow the following steps to move your wordpress blog from directory to root: Step 1: First of all make sure that all index.php, .htaccess, and other files that might be copied over are backed up and/or moved, and that the root directory is ready for the new WordPress files. Step 2; Login to your blog and o to the Administration > Settings > General and in the box for WordPress address (URL): change the address. For instance it is yoursite.com/directory…. Make it yoursite.com. Similarly in the box for Blog address (URIL), change the address and save settings. Do not try to view your blog at this moment. Step 3: Move your WordPress core files to the new location. Login to your FTP and move all the stuff from directory to root. Step 4: In case you have custom Permalinks, go to the Administration > Settings > Permalinks panel and update your Permalink structure to your .htaccess file in the root. Step 5: You might have problem with loading images and other media, so it’s better to keep the directory and wp-content/uploads folder as it is, else you will have to change the path to the images on every post directly on your SQL database.
