MY GENERATOR IS 2 YEARS OLD AND WAS JUST INSTALLED LAST WEEK BY A ELECTRICIAN. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT RUNS ON (NATURAL GAS) AND THIS IS THE FIRST WEEK THAT IT CYCLED ON THE EXERCISE RUN. IT STARTED - - ALTHOUGH IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS ON CHOKE (LABORING TO RUN WITH A RICH NATUAL GAS SMELL) I WENT OUT AND TOOK OFF THE AIRCLEANER AND FOOLED WITH THE LEVER OVER THE CARB AND IT CLEARED UP SOMEWHAT- - -THE ONLY THING IT SEEMS TO HAVE A FAINT MISS IN THE RUNNING- - AND NOT SURE WHAT THIS COULD BE. THE OTHER QUESTION IS - - -IS IT SUPPOSED TO RUN AT A LITTLE ABOVE IDLE ON THE EXERCISE CYCLE? PLEASE ADVISE!!

Model 5813, 20kw Generac - During the weekly duty cycle operation - engine runs very rough and you can smell natural gas coming from the exhaust. At full speed no load - the unit runs perfect and at full speed with load the unit runs perfect. The rough operation seems to be only during cold weather operation of the duty cycle. I checked the choke operation and it works great. If I flip the switch from "auto" to “manual” during the 10-minute duty cycle it runs perfect. Is there an adjustment to speed up the low rpm duty cycle operation? It seems if the unit were to run at a slightly higher rpm during the duty cycle it would run fine. Any help would be appreciated.
Check to see if the Gen set is not in quiet test mode on weekly operation this will sound like
generator is running rough, and unburned fuel smell will occur.
