    The Speaker of the House is seen as the third most powerful person in the United States. If the President and Vice-President are no longer in power, for whatever reason, then the Speaker of the House becomes the acting president. Within the officials appointed by the president the Secretary of State is the highest ranked appointed executive branch official.
