Hello.  My name is Ryan.  I was reading your conversation with Guest209550 about his pregnant fiance in the Philippines and thought you might have some insight into a situation my wife and I are in...

We have been married for almost 5 years via a K1 fiance visa.  Marivic (my wife) has a son (Marc) who is 11, and has been living in the Philippines since he was 1 year old.  Marcs father is from the Philippines, but the child was born on the island of Saipan, where they were contract working (a U.S. Commonwealth), which makes her son a U.S. citizen.

So Marc has been in the Philippines for over ten years.  We have been trying to figure out how to get him over here, to the U.S., but have been running into many snags.  Marivics brother who lives in Manilla has been looking into it on that end.  Her brother said it would cost around 5 thousand dollars (u.s.) becasue of "taxes" since he is not a citizen of the Philippines and there were no "recognition" papers filed.  (I am not sure what recognition papers are.  My wife just brought this up today but I don't exactly know what they mean.  She said it was paperwork declaring both parents are filipino when he entered the PI.

I am brand new to this and not sure how it works, or if this is even the forum to get into further detail, but I will check back periodically to see what happens.  Thank you for any and all help or even a steer in the right direction.

Cordially,

-Ryan
