My system stopped with sound, it plays about 10 seconds when i switch modes, i have individually unh

It stopped sound.....I unhooked the wires first from the receiver then from the speakers to check for shorts, and nothing happened, when i switch modes it works for 10 seconds or so then quits, does it on all types, ipod, dvd, radio?
