Well let me tell you this it is an interesting topic for those who have an interest in reading stats because there will be a lot of them here. In my opinion, to determine the growth of religion we need to find out some keep points relating to it i.e. how old it is? What percentage of the world population follows it and with what rate is it growing in comparison with the growth rate of the world population? If we find the answers to these questions it might be easy to narrow down to top 3 religions in the world and similarly in India. According to reliable resources the world’s population compromises around 31% of Christians, 21% of Muslims, 14% Hindus, 6% Buddhists, 12% who practice other religions and 16% who follow none. Having stated their size it’s time to put light on the age of these religions. Islam started around the 6th century AD, Christianity 28-29 AD/CE, Buddhism 5th century BC. Hinduism has no reliable records of dates which can ascertain how old it is but to some it is definitely one of the oldest religions in the world. Now coming to the third point, smaller religions have a larger percentage growth than some of the dominant religions in the world because of their small sample size but if we ignore them and take into consideration the top religions of the world we will notice that Christianity has a growth rate of 1.36%, Islam 2.13%, Hinduism 1.69%, Buddhism 1.09%. Looking at these figure and the high birth rates in the Muslim countries one can safely assume Islam as the fastest growing religion among the dominant religions of the world.
