Serena’s history of winning both the singles and doubles titles at a major dates back further than just this year. In 1999, she won both her first US Open singles and doubles titles, in 2002 she completed the double at Wimbledon, and in 2003 she won both titles at the Australian Open. In fact there is only one occasion in a Grand Slam when Serena has competed in both the singles and doubles that when she has won the singles title she has not also been part of the winning doubles team - at Wimbledon in 2003. Based on Serena’s current form and history, she should be able to complete the double at the US Open in 2009.
