Bohol Island is located in the Central Visayas Region. The capital of Bohol Island is Taabilaran. Bohol is an island province of Philippines. The history of Bohol is divided in three stages:
In Early History: Bohol is derived from the word Bo-ho or Bo-ol. The offshore island was the stool of the first global treaty of serenity and accord between the native ruler Datu Sikatuna, and Spanish conquistador.
Spanish colonial period; Spain occurred on Bohol in 1565. A Spanish explorer arrived in Bohol to look for spices and gold. Because of the Spanish colonial period, several municipalities in Bohol have names of towns in Spain like Getafe.
U.S. intervention and occupation; United States beaten Spain in the Spanish-American War, the U.S. acquired the whole Philippine islands.
Japanese occupation and liberation; Japanese troops set down in Tagbilaran on May 17, 1942. Boholanos laboured in a guerilla opposition contrary to the Japanese forces. Bohol was subsequent liberated by the localized guerrillas and the Filipino and American armies who set down on April 11, 1945.
