   I don't smoke anymore myself but I questioned myself on the very same thought.  What makes smoking so desirable?  I've found that it's a social thing to do, if you grow up in a household of smokers you grow up thinking that smoking is ok to do and you'll often find yourself bumming a stick or two smoking when they smoke.  You can also find yourself following your peers, if they smoke you smoke.. at least second hand smoke.  You'll notice that it takes the edge off of people and helps them relax for a short period of time legally without altering the state of mind which is why people do smoke to getaway from what they're currently doing.  That's why you'll often hear of smoke breaks in the workplace.

   I think that people think that smoking makes them look cool, and by the time they figure out how bad it is for them, they are unable to quit. So instead of quitting smoking, never start.
