Since the dawn of civilizations agriculture is one the area that impacts and in turn is impacted the most by environment. However sustainability of the human race and this world depends a lot on the environmental friendliness agriculture. India is having a food crisis due to systematic destruction of farmlands and food production methods over the last five decades through uncontrolled use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, mono-cropping and other intensive agricultural techniques. Instead of taking the some factual decision the government is implementing false solutions like genetically engineered (GE) food crops.

Ecological farming is the solution of the problem being faced by agriculture India today. It will also help in keeping the agriculture sustainable. This type of agriculture conserves soil and water resources, and on the same time it will protects the climate of the country by enhances agro-diversity, ensures biodiversity, meets the demand for food and safeguards livelihoods.  India has a very brief and old history of agriculture. Over centuries, farmers in this country devised modes to keep the farms sustainable.

Techniques like mixed cropping, crop rotation, using organic manure and pest management kept the Indian agriculture sustainable. But things modified for the worse with the onslaught of a chemical intensive model of agriculture, implemented through the so called Green Revolution in 1965.
