What purpose did movies and radio serve during the Great Depression?

    Well, I can tell you that they gave an escape to the people from the dismal reality of their lives. People went to movies and got to see something less serious and terrible than their actual situation. Radio was very similar to the way we use television to day and was a cheaper, more regular form of escape than movies.
