    Hi,
When you cancel the programming on the Dish Network receiver,
the DVR will no longer operate to the best of my knowledge.  The DVR in these units is designed to only record from the satellite input and will not record anything that does not come down on the Dish signal.  The Dish system uses RG-6 coaxial cable which should work equally well for a cable system signal.

I have a complete Dish HD receiver with DVR as well as local
Cox cable internet service. Why give up the better picture on Dish? Just order the cable internet only. Dish is now running 25+ HD channels which is probably twice as many as any cable system in the country. I recommend keeping your Dish system so when you upgrade to an HDTV you can upgrade to the Dish HD system quite cheaply.
