     Although agriculture sector of India contributes only 5% in the India’s GDP, but it is one of important sector for the country’s economic, social, and political progress. Agriculture industry gives livelihoods to 60 percent of the rural people of India, the majority of who are poor, and remains vital for the country’s food security. The Green Revolution enabled India to gain self-sufficiency in food grains, but slow agricultural growth and the consequent widening of the gap between rural and urban incomes has become a major issue in this regard.
