Medicines are required to control the level of testosterone. This is called hormonal manipulations As prostate tumors require testosterone to grow, so it reduces the testosterone level that often worlds pretty well for the prevention of further growth and spread of cancer. Hormonal manipulation is used in people to relieve the symptoms on men whose cancer has spread. It can also be done by removing the testes through surgery. The drugs such as Lupron and Zoladex are used to treat the advanced stages of prostate cancer. The medicines block the production of testosterone. The procedure is also known as chemical castration, as it has the same result as the removal of testes. However it can be reversed, the drugs are given by injection which are often every 3-6 months. The side effects of these drugs include nausea and vomiting, hot flashes, anemia, lethargy, osteoporosis, reduction in sexual desire and impotence. Some of the medications which are used for hormonal therapy include androgen drugs like flutamide as it prevents testosterone from attaching to the cells of prostate. The side effects might be like erectile dysfunction, loss of sexual desire, liver problems, diarrhea and the enlargement of b*****s. Chemotherapy is used to treat the prostate cancers and they are resistant to the hormonal treatments. The oncology specialist usually recommends a single drug or the combination of drugs. The medications of Chemotherapy are used for the treatment of prostate cancer like: Adriamycin Docetaxel Estramustine Mitoxantrone Paclitaxel Prednisone
