The first Celica was introduced in the year 1970. In order to catch up with the latest cars in recent years Toyota is now launching a new version of the Celica for the year 2000, which is much lighter, more powerful, and also less expensive than its previous models. The relationship of better price/value relationship doesn’t stand here,

Designed at Toyota's CALTY facility in Newport Beach, California, and a near dead ringer for the XYR concept coupe shown in Detroit, this high-profile front-drive liftback comes in two flavors: GT and top-line GT-S. We recently drove several prototype versions of both and were pretty impressed.

Celica has MacPherson Strut suspension for the front and double wishbone suspension for the rear. A rigid bodyframe , taut chassis and good overall balance provides Celica with a sporty feeling. A quick steering helps it in Sprinting through the twisties with a skidpad of .89g and allow it to run at a slalom speed of about 69.1 mph. Another main feature of the car is its light weight 1.8 liter DOHC 16 valve engine that makes 5 more horses than the baseline model. There are two types of transmission available which are five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, a six speed manual or four speed automatic transmission is available. The six-speed GT-S ran 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 15.2 ticks at 93.0 mph. It also needed only 111 feet to stop from 60 mph.
