What does it mean when animals are in heat?

   When we talk about animals being in heat we're referring to females being ready to mate and reproduce, their bodies have adapted to allow for a seeds (sperm) to fertilize the eggs which are carried in their ovaries.  Much like human females having their time of the month every month, animals are just the same, however, will not be in heat that often.  Most come into heat twice a year but this depends entirely on the species.
