I have heard of companies releasing their API but have no idea what it is and why that is newsworthy.

     API is a technology acronym that stands for application program interface. It is a set of tools and specific instructions that are required to build various types of software applications or apps. the API can be considered the building blocks to creating a program that are to be used by a software developer. 


    Examples of famous APIs are those of WS-Windows (for Windows related programs and applications) as well as iOS for iPad and iPhone apps.
