Hello, I am Uzbek and I came to Lahore Pakistan about 2 years back. My flight was for Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore, one of my who went to Pakistan about a decade ago when i told him that my flight was for Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore he said there is no airport with such name in Lahore. He said that the Lahore Airport had some other name but he do not remember the name, i told that the name of the airport might be changed because there is no other airport in Lahore. Is that true that the Allama Iqbal Airport Lahore is the new name of the Airport and the previous name was not this. Someone please tell me about this and also tell about the old name of Allama Iqbal Airport and also that why and when the name was changed.

Allama Iqbal International Airport is the second-largest civil airport in Pakistan, located in the Lahore, the capital of the Punjab province. The Lahore Airport was previously known as the Lahore International Airport until the new terminal building was completed in 2003, the Airport was renamed after Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbal, the Islamic poet-philosopher who was a major advocate for the creation of the state of Pakistan. The airport is currently serving with three terminals; the Allama Iqbal terminal, the Hajj terminal, and a cargo terminal. The airport is located about 15 kilometres from the centre of the Lahore city.
