The color used in Holi festival is basically obtained from a flower which generally grows during spring time and its name is Palash flower .It can be seen grown in a big number in Rajasthan state and Birbhum ,Purulia,Bankura Dist of West Bengal and entire Jharkhand state .The Palash flowers are first picked and then are allowed to dry and a red color powder forms which is used as Holi power and this is also called organic Holi powder. Besides, the flowers like Amaltas (Cassia fistula), Marigold / Gainda (Tagetus erecta), Yellow Chrysanthemums, Black Babul (Acacia arabica) yield different shades of yellow. Their petals are dried and the colors of these flowers in shade and crush them to obtain a fine powder. Then they are mixed with appropriate quantity of the powder with besan, etc. or use separately. To obtain the green color, the henna powder, separately or is mixed with equal quantity of any suitable flour to attain a lovely green shade. Green color can also be obtained by mixing a fine paste of leaves like spinach, coriander, mint, tomato leaves, etc. in water.
