We have some Muslim friends and they have invited us at their place for dinner on Eid eve. I am very curious to know some words to say to Muslim friends on Eid ul Azha. What is the significance of this day for the muslims?

Eid ul Azha is an Aabic word, and its meanings is Festival of Sacrifice. A great holiday is celebrated by the muslims all over the world to commemorate the willingness of Abraham sacrifice of his son before God. The meat is then divided into three parts. The family retains one third of its share; another third is given to the relatives, friends and neighbors, and the other third is given to the people who are poor & needy. Eid ul Azha begins with Wajib prayer of two Rakaah and then followed by sermon. The word Eid appeared in the fifth chapter of the Quran which means solemn festival.

Eid al-Adha is celebrated on the 10th day of the 12th and in the last Islamic month of Dhuhal Hijjah the lunar Islamic calendar. Eid al-Adha celebrations start just after the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia by Muslims worldwide, who descend from Mount Arafat. The date is almost 70 days (2 Months and 10 days) after the end of the month of Ramadan, i.e. Eid-ul-Fitr. Ritually the holiday of Eid ul Azha lasts until sunset of the 13th day of Dhu al-Hijjah. Muslims say Eid Greetings to each other during this special day.
