Baker Street is located in the Marylebone district of the City of Westminster in London. It got the name after builder William Baker, who laid the foundation of the street in the 18th century. The popularity of the street is because of its connection to the fictional detective stories of Sherlock Holmes, who used to live at a fictional 221B Baker Street address. The area was originally developed for elite class, but now it is acquired by commercial premises. Many people pass through this street every day. Baker Street is a busy place in London, and locates in postcode areas NW1/W1. It forms part of the A41 there. It has the intersection with Park Road, parallel to Gloucester Place, runs south from Regent's Park and intersects Marylebone Road, Portman Square and Wigmore Street. Baker Street turns into Orchard Street at the intersection with Wigmore St which ends after intersecting with Oxford Street. AT the end of Portman Square the road extends as Orchard Street. Selfridges, a landmark department store is on the corner of Orchard Street and Oxford Street. Baker Street tube station is considered as one of the oldest surviving underground stations in the world. Next door is Transport for London's lost property office. In 1971, A significant robbery of a branch of Lloyds Bank took place on Baker Street is another reason of its popularity.
