    It is found mostly in the middle east, because around 80million years ago ,a period of climate change caused the ocean currents to stop, and the Tethys sea (what is now the mediteranean) stagnated, and all the marine organisms died, poisoned by a biuldup of hydrogen sulphide, and sank to the bottom. With the northern movement of the African plate, and the shrinking of the Tethys sea, this mass of decomposing material shifted east.
