Flowers and certain insects have a symbiotic relationship. Flowers need insects for pollination, a process that is essential for the propagation of a particular species of plants. Without such a mechanism a particular species of plant may vanish very quickly. Insects on the other hand get nutrition from the nectar of flowers.

Through the process of evolution those plants which can attract insects through the colorful petals and aroma survive better as do the insects which can sense these characteristics. The association of “good” or “bad” with a particular smell is a characteristic of our evolution. What may appear a repelling smell to us may in fact be attractive to a particular species of insects.
