Why does light refract when it encounters the glass in a lens?

     In case of light and glass it is generally experienced that light when enters into a glass substance it reflects back if the angle is straight or goes accordingly. 


    But there comes another phenomenon know as refraction. Its because of the Critical angle in the Glass. It makes light to refract at some other angle then the desired route. 

    now coming to lens which can be concave or convex. So the refraction will be in accordance with the lens modification.
