Why is Twitter blocked in Egypt?

My friend in Egypt was telling me about twitter blocking there when it disconnected and sinnce then we couldn't talk. Can someone please tell me what happened?

    Not only twitter but whole internet is blocked in Egypt, due to the protests against government, and since twitter and other social networking sites are open platforms to share your opinion, all are blocked for Egyptians.

    Because, governemnt thinks that twitter is the root cause of protests!
