France currently sit in second place in Group Seven four points behind table topping Serbia and with three games to go will they win the group or will they be facing a playoff in their bid to qualify for the South African World Cup in 2010?

Under Raymond Domenech, France have had a very disappointing qualifying campaign so far with just nine goals scored in seven games and a number of key players now expressing dissatisfaction with Domenech’s methods. France were held to a 1-1 draw against Romania on Saturday after Julien Escude’s own goal cancelled out Thierry Henry’s opener. France must now avoid defeat against Serbia on Wednesday if they are to have any chance of winning the group and with Thierry Henry reportedly claiming that ‘there is no style, no guidance’ under Domenech, and Franck Ribery an injury doubt confidence is not sky high in the French camp.
Serbia lead Group Seven and their only defeat in this campaign came in France 12 months ago In Belgrade their form has been brilliant with three wins out of three and no goals conceded. With Serbia’s team built around the pairing of Nemanja Vidic and Branislav Ivanovic in central defence, France will find it hard to score and a draw may well be on the cards.  If that is the case then Serbia will almost certainly go through as group winners as they face a home match against Romania and then a trip to Lithuania needing just three points to secure top spot.
