   Mass communication is dissemination of information or message by a  small number of people to a large anonymous and usually heterogeneous audience through the use of specialized communication media.
   Mass communication involves "information distribution". This is a "one to many" form of communication, whereby products are mass produced and disseminated to a great quantity of audiences. The units of analysis for mass communication are the messages, the mediums, and the audience.
   The term 'mass' suggests that the recipients of media products constitute a vast sea of passive, undifferentiated individuals and communication' refers to the giving and taking of meaning, the transmission and reception of messages.
   Previously, it was popularly recognized as Journalism. However, with the introduction of state-of-the-art medium of communication and satellite-based television channels, Journalism was termed as Mass Communication.
   Today it is a professional department that prepares students for careers in communicating through the traditional, specialized and new media.
   Mass Communication is an all-encompassing career choice. A background in Mass Communication makes one very valuable to virtually any kind of workplace.  A general degree in Mass Communication gives one the skills to be able to participate fully in most every aspect of your career.
