    Hi There,
Holy Cow is believed to be a variant of sacred cow, a reference to the revered status of cows in India. The first recorded use of the expression as an interjection of surprise is believed to have been in the so-called 'Roaring 20's" The term was the signature phrase shouted by recently retired New York Yankee announcer (and former NY Yankee shortstop) Phil Rizzuto when an exciting play was made on the field.
