   Too much water could effect a tree the same as too little leaves wilting and turning prematurely. If the tree is standing in water for a long time (a week or so) the abundance of water causes a temporary lost of leaves. Hardwood trees can lose their leaves and re-leaf without any real health effects. Dont worry about it since soon the leaves will be dropping anyway. The tree will leaf out fine next spring.
