I wait till they are between three and four weeks old. It is easier to feed them at this stage and they will still be great pets. The longer they spend with the parent the better.

I put my babies in a 10 gallon aquarium with about three inches of wood shavings. I sit this on a heating pad on Med. I also cover the top with a towel. If you wait till they are better feathered out they are not so reliant on heat. feed it about 10 -20 cc's of food per feeding. Check on it about every three to four hours to see if it needs to be fed again. Careful and don't over feed it because this will stretch the crop out and it will sag when the babies get grown. I feed mine before I go to bed about 10:30 PM and then feed them when I get up at 6:00 AM don't worry if they are empty when you feed them the first time in the morning or between feedings. Make sure the formula isn't over 106° and not under 103°. They eat better when the food is this temperature. Make sure that you make the formula so the babies get plenty of water. I like to mix it until it is the consistency of oat meal.

If you will handle the babies every day they will be as tame as if you hand fed them. When they get to weaning age and you have to stop feeding them some will resent it and not like you. It is natural as they leave the parents after they are weaned and on their own. If you are feeding it, it looks at you as the parent. I have found that by handling them every day for a couple of minutes that they will be just as tame as a hand fed bird.
