    The West African Examinations Council is a non-profit-making organization. Its head-quarters are in Accra, Ghana, established in 1952 after the Governments of Ghana (then Gold Coast), Nigeria, Sierra Leone and The Gambia enacted the West African Examinations Council Ordinances in 1951. Liberia became the fifth constituent of the Council in 1974.

    The enactment of the Ordinances was founded on the Jeffrey Report, which powerfully sustained the suggestion for the setting up of a local examination board to harmonize and standardize pre-university evaluation methods in the then British West Africa.

    The major objectives of the Council are:

    • To perform examinations in the public interest

    • To accolade credentials, supplied that the credentials did not comprise smaller measures of attainment than matching credentials of analyzing administration in the United Kingdom.

    Convention Establishing the Council
