   Merits
   
       * Friction allows us to walk.
       * without friction the objects will slide off the table unless it is perfectly horizontal.
       * it would be difficult to sit on a chair without friction.
       * friction helps in supporting a ladder inclined to a wall.
       * friction provides the reaction which makes a car and train move
   
   
   
   Demerits:
   
       * Friction in machines produces heat and
       * undesirable noise.
       * as a result of excessive friction,the wear and tear on the machines increases.
       * energy is wasted.
