    My 5 yr old Danby no longer cools either. I lifted the top by unscrewing on the back. I gave one tap on the control unit and the cooling cycle started.  Worked for a day then stopped. another tap and it works agains.  Sounds like a control unit problem.  I guess I will have to tap once a day unless I can replace the control unit.
