i gauged up from a 14 to a 10 and my right ear is swollen, red and it hurts alot. my friend put them in for my by shoving them in since they were too big to put in easily. the left one hurt worse going in but after awhile the pain went away in that ear and got a little worse in the right.

oh dear, this is all wrong. Hopefully I can help point you in the right direction so you can take better care of your ears.

First of all, unless the next size slides right in, you want to wait at least a few weeks inbetween stretching (more for the bigger sizes). It should go 14-12-10, not 14-shove in a 10.

Secondly, never force in a new size! You want to go slowly, sliding in a taper slowly or slowly tape up using the taping method. Also, you didn't say what you used, but for reference - never use anything porous to stretch - use only certain metals (steel) or glass, and stick with steel or glass until the piercing or stretch is healed. (porous jewelry would be acrylic, wood, stone, silicone, etc)

As for your question, I would expect your ears to be red and swollen after what you described. If you got lucky and didn't do any damage, make sure to clean them twice a day with a sea salt rinse and check for infection. Also, if you are wearing acrylic please try to find a glass or steel piece of jewelry until the stretch is healed. I have used acrylic before I knew what I was doing and I got lucky without an infection, but it's just a really bad idea.

I hope your ears heal and you learn to take better care of your body mods!
