   The only public ice skating rink in Washington DC.  Yes if you did not know this before Natl Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden is the only pubic skating ring in washington; Ice skating here in the winter time is a real treat. You get the great sights of the Mall complete with a great outdoor ice skating experience. Its the only public ice skating rink I know of that's actually in DC. The only knock against it, when compared to other ice skating venues, is the long wait and the somewhat short time on the ice. When you arrive, you buy a timeslot and can rent skates. That time-slot is just that, maybe an hour or so. And you'll find yourself skating in circular rink that's a bit smaller than a traditional ice hockey rink.
   
   In the summer time, the area where the rink was is revealed to be a pretty nice (mini-) lake. At one end of the lake will be which ever jazz band is playing, and they'll usually bring a few speakers. Attending the jazz concerts here are like attending a baseball game, you're going for the atmosphere. If you keep that in mind, bring a picnic blanket along with the usual fares and spirits. You'll have a blast! Plus, the jazz is free free free!
   
   The concession stand is somewhat pricey, and there's always a line. Expect to wait 30 minutes for food, regardless of the time of year. But their sangria is pretty decent, considering.
