    Hi,
I have been looking at changing careers and nurse anesthetist so far has the most appeal, but It will be an expensive switch so I wanted to know all the pros and more especially the cons before making the career jump. What is an average day like?

No real average day.  We start early.  My alarm is set for 5:30 and I'm at work about 6:45AM.  We take our first patients into the OR at 7:15AM.  I never know when I will get off from work.  Sometimes as early as noon, other times I don't come home at all.

What if anything do you hate about the job?

There is nothing I hate about my career.  I do get tired sometimes, but the work I do is essential ~ providing anesthesia care to patients in every setting in the hospital ~ from emergency surgery to labor epidurals and everything in between.

Is there alot of diversity to the job?

    As above.

Are average salaries as high 120000 or is that just organizations trying to pull people into the field?

That is a very low number.  New graduates are earning that.  With a year of experience, you can make well above that number.

I realize this is a tall order but anything you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

You have to really love nursing and really love taking care of sick people to succeed at this career.  Do not do it for the money, as you can make lots more money with lots less effort in other fields.  In my humble opinion, success is knowing that you do meaningful and rewarding work, not how much money you make.  With a career as a nurse anesthetist, it is hard not to succeed!

    All the best,
