   Diwali is a religious day that has great importance for both Hindus and Sikhs as well.  Friends and neighbors exchange sweets on the day is a very popular custom of the event.    On the date of diwali in 1619 sixth guru, Guru Hargobind Ji was released from the Gwalior Fort prison. 52 other princes were also released on the same date as well. The day is also known as "Bandi Chorr Devas". Sikhs celebrates the day by lighting the Golden Temple and this tradition of celebration of the return of Guru Hargobind continues till now.
   
   Another important Sikh event which is associated with Diwali is the martyrdom of the elderly Sikh strategist Bhai Mani Singh in 1737. Bhai Mani Singh was the Granthi (known as keeper/reader of Sikh scripture) of Harmandir Sahib. It is popularly known as the Golden Temple. He, in 1704, wrote the final version of Guru Granth Sahib dictated by Guru Gobind Singh to him.
