yakima skybox is stuck closed when loaded. How can I make it easier to open when loaded

   I have no idea how to open it once it's stuck closed.  Luckily, mine eventually popped open after applying extra upward pressure while the lock handle was appropriately turned.

   
   

   I talked to Yakima tech support, and they told me to lube the 3 ball/socket joints with Tri-Flo.  It did make that side easier to open.  However, my other side remains stuck.  Not sure how I'll get it open...
