I recently had an engine light come on my 2000 Dodge Dakota. All the fluids in my engine are on its good level and clear. The main problem is that it automatically shifts from 1st gear to the 2nd. What should I do, please help.

About the only likely non-expensive interpretations for this code, in the nonattendance of any other code, is that one of the two transference pace sensors is beginning to get flaky. Those sensor measurements are utilized to assess the pace sensor ratio for each equipment, so if one is incorrect that will origin a ratio error. Another set about is to check the 'low' clutch via a diagnostic readout carton commanding the procedure of the transmission. That would be certain thing that a transmission shop can do. If you overtake that check then aim on the sensors. If not, then it entails unfastening up the Trans and managing some clutch part replacements.
The speed sensors are located on the left side of the transmission and are easy to replace if they are accessible. They cost about $80 each. So you could try replacing one or the other (if the Speedo looks accurate then try the turbine sensor first) and seeing if that corrects the problem rather than going to an independent Trans shop for the clutch evaluation.
