2001 gmc 2500 hd rear axle pinion nut torque

need to change seal and was wondering the torque spec for the nut

    if your not using a new tapered roller bearing then you have to check the turning toque, you have to match this number or you will over tighten the bearing preload and will induce premature bearing failure.
    to check turning torque, disconnect driveshaft , have wheels in air(diff on jack stands) and put a inch pounds torque wrench with dial on it.
    turn so that you see the rolling torque ,its is the number you need to match it to.
    another precaution other thing to do to make sure its back in same spot is to mark the pinion and nut with marker. then count the turns. mark a line on your socket to make counting easy.
    then just make sure everything is the same when you put back together.
    remember though if you over tighten you cant just loosen it back off if the rear end uses a crush sleeve.
